As we can tell, religion is an important historical force that has shaped our planet. (Martin & Nakayama, 2010) Religion has led to wars, conflicts, movements and many other historical events. Looking back in history you can see references in communication that created cultural conflicts. As most know, religion is very complex. Not only from the different types but to how
people take and understand religion.
When looking at communication, religion has had a very rich
historical place in studies.
Throughout time, conflicts have been started due to religion understand and communication. The
fighting between Palestine and Israel is an example of a conflict where
religion plays a major part but was not the cause. A lot of conflicts started do to communication issues and religious ties and communication. The fighting was started
after Palestinian land was taken to form the country of Israel. The fact that
Israel is Jewish and that Palestine is Muslim has not helped the conflict.
This is just one example how it has let to problems in intercultural communication.
With being in the military I know that I may have to go overseas one day. I know it could be do to barriers like religion or communication. I think it is important for people to understand that people have differences and that we need to see that, so we can understand everyone better. Definitely with religion. People take it in so many different ways, but I am proud to say I will help if we ever get in that situation and do my part as an United States Army Soldier.
This made me laugh a little bit, when I saw it.
Here is a YOUTUBE video that really helps you understand why religion has played in important role in how communication can be affected and change the world.

If you go to this website below, you will see a very interactive map that shows you the history of religion. I think it is important because you can see where it started and how it has changed over time. Through migration, movement, communication, settlement and more.

I think respect others' religion is very important and stay with our own religion and belief also state that we respect ourselves. But in economy and social issues, even politics issue, religion is not easy to be respected evenly because multiple conflicts. So rules of the conversion need to be equal.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting map. I wonder why it did not depict Judaism very much between 480 BC until the time Israel was founded in 1948 CE. Good post though. I think religious histories have had one of the biggest impacts on modern times.
ReplyDeleteI like the religion and politics image. Very appropriate. Great use of photos, video, and link. You can embed YouTube videos in your blog by clicking on the movie icon next to the photo link on the right hand side of the editing tool bar. Also make sure you spell check/proofread before posting. For future blogs, I would like to see you expand your content in terms of paragraph 2. This should be rich and descriptive. Photos/videos would work great here too!
